Water-Resistant Phone Pouches: What to Check Before Use
Share
Water-resistant pouches can help protect a phone against certain splashes or wet conditions. However, water-resistant does not necessarily mean suitable for immersion. Actual protection depends on the individual product's specifications and condition.
1. Read the stated protection level
Check the manufacturer claims for the exact pouch, including any IP rating, test conditions and usage limitations. Promotional photographs are not proof that the pouch is safe for underwater activities.
2. Measure the whole phone
Compare the pouch's internal dimensions with your phone's length, width and thickness. Include any existing shell you intend to keep on the device. Verify whether the screen and controls can be used as required.
3. Inspect the seal before each use
Look for dirt, damage or wear on the closure and seals. Follow the manufacturer's closing and testing instructions. If a test without your phone is recommended, perform it exactly as specified.
4. Stay within the stated conditions
Water pressure, exposure time, heat and wear can affect performance. Never immerse a phone unless the particular pouch is explicitly designed and rated for that use. A pouch does not change the phone's own protection rating or warranty.
